May 2, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Minnesota United FC News Release

Minneapolis, Minn. (Friday, May 2, 2014) -- Alone at the top. That's where Minnesota United FC (3W-0T-0L, 9pts) sits in the North American Soccer League (NASL) standings after winning its opening three matches. This Saturday, May 3rd, NASL newcomers Indy Eleven (0W-2T-1L, 2pts) come to town to face the undefeated United side at National Sports Center Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on KSTC45-TV.

Saturday's game is the featured North American Soccer League 'Match of the Week' and will broadcast live on ESPN3.

"We are definitely excited to be hosting an outstanding club like Indy Eleven at the National Sports Center Stadium," said United head coach Manny Lagos. "They have played well on the field this year and we are looking forward to a good game in what is going to be an important game for both teams"

Indy makes its first trip to Minnesota after suffering its first loss of the season last Saturday against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Indy's roster boasts some quality players, but perhaps none better and more well known than the Brazilian Kléberson. The Brazilian has extensive global experience with clubs like Flamengo, Beşiktaş, and Manchester United. In 2002, he was a member of the Brazilian national team that won the World Cup.

Minnesota, sitting three points clear of three NASL clubs tied for second looks to remain undefeated and atop the NASL Spring Season standings with a fourth consecutive win and second straight in front of the home fans. United's defense has been a strength through the opening three contests, allowing just one goal in 270 minutes of action. Goalkeeper Matt VanOekel was voted into the NASL Team of the Week for his play last week and finished second in NASL Player of the Month race for April.

"I am very pleased with the group and how they are going about working together defensively," said Lagos on his club's defensive effort thus far. "I think it's a credit to them and the attitude they have had. It's really been an impressive showing in terms of how they have gone about their business thus far this season."
