First Former Kingfish Player to Make MLB Debut

Kenosha, WI. - For the first time in team history a former Kenosha Kingfish player, Rico Garcia, has been called up to the MLB. Garcia pitches for the Colorado Rockies and will start Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.

Garcia, a right-handed pitcher, was with the Kingfish in 2014 and finished with a 5-2 record and 1.87 ERA. He was a Sophomore at Hawaii Pacific University at the time. Garcia was selected to the 2014 All Star team for the South Division that year as well.

On June 14th, 2016, Garcia was signed by the Colorado Rockies and assigned to their Class A Short Season Affiliate, the Boise Hawks. From there, Garcia moved up to the Asheville Tourists in July of 2017, then to the Lancaster JetHawks in March of 2018 and then to the Hartford Yard Goats in July of the same year.

In February of 2019 the Rockies invited Garcia to spring training but continued to play for the Hartford Yard Goats at the start of the season. In June of 2019, Garcia was assigned to the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

Throughout his MiLB career, Garcia was a Mid and Post-Season All-Star with Lancaster in 2018, was the MILB.COM Organization All-Star with the Colorado Rockies and the Pitcher of the Week in June of 2019 with Hartford.

The Colorado Rockies will play the Boston Red Sox at Coors Field in Denver with Garcia set to take the mound at 7:40pm tonight.
