First ever Dynamo Charities Cup to take place October 11

HOUSTON, TX (Thursday, September 3, 2009) - The first ever Dynamo Charities Cup will take place on Sunday, October 11 at Robertson Stadium and feature the Houston Dynamo against Mexican club Monterrey, it was announced today.

The Dynamo Charities Cup, expected to become an annual event bringing prominent international teams to Houston to raise money for charity, will debut with the Houston Dynamo facing their closest Mexican foe, geographically, in Monterrey. The Rayados currently have the fourth best record in the Mexican Primera División at 3-1-2. The Dynamo currently lead Major League Soccer with 40 points from 25 games.

A portion of the proceeds from the match will go to Dynamo Charities, the charitable arm of the Houston Dynamo. Dynamo Charities' 2009 programs include the YMCA of Greater Houston, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Soccer for Success, the Dynamo Academy Youth Development scholarship program, Kicks for Kids, the Methodist Hospital System, and the StatoilHydro field regeneration project.

"We are very excited about the creation of the Dynamo Charities Cup and our first-ever opponent in Monterrey," Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti said. "Our vision is to create a Dynamo tradition that gives fans an exciting and unique match they can look forward to every year. We are also happy to build this event around Dynamo Charities so that we can continue to make contributions to the community."

The match will kick off at 6:00 p.m., and tickets are currently available at HoustonDynamo.com. Dynamo season ticket holders will enjoy discounted tickets, which they can purchase by logging onto their account manager or by calling their customer service representative at (713) 276-7500.
