FireWolves Start Season 1-0 with Win in Buffalo: by the Numbers

The Albany FireWolves (1-0) defeated the Buffalo Bandits (0-1), 11-10, at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York on Saturday evening. Despite Buffalo recording 15 more shots on goal, the FireWolves were able to hold off their inner state foes and start the new season on the right foot.

Tanner Thomson led the FireWolves offense with 7 total points in the game on 2 goals and 5 assists. Connor Kelly added 6 points in his debut with the FireWolves, logging 2 goals and 4 assists. Other new members to Albany Kieran McArdle and Ethan Walker contributed 4 and 3 points each, respectively. Rookie John Piatelli tallied 3 points in his first career game on 1 shorthanded goal and 2 assists. Charlie Kitchen and Hiana Thompson each added 2 points in the victory. Colton Watkinson, John LaFontaine, and Nick Chaykowsky each contributed 1 point to round out the FireWolves scoring.

In net, Doug Jamieson allowed just 10 goals while recording 44 saves. Buffalo took a total of 54 shots in the game, 15 more than Albany.

Joe Nardella went 15 for 25 from the faceoff dot, scooped up a game-high 17 loose balls, and caused 2 turnovers on the night. Thomson added to his impressive line with 10 loose ball recoveries. McArdle and Thompson each recovered 7 loose balls, while Kitchen, Watkinson, LaFontaine, Kelly and Piatelli each scooped up 6. Kitchen, Kelly, and Chaykowsky each blocked 1 shot in the contest.

Albany capitalized on 2 out of 4 power play opportunities with goals coming from Walker and McArdle.
