
FireWolves Fall Short in Inaugural Game: By the Numbers

The Albany FireWolves (0-1) were defeated by the Toronto Rock (1-0) on Saturday night at the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, ON. by a score of 10-9. The FireWolves were able to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but two late Rock goals lifted Toronto to a narrow victory. Andrew Kew led the way for the FireWolves offense, logging a game-high 6 total points on 4 goals and 2 assists. Reilly O'Connor added 3 points on 1 goal and 2 assists. Greg Downing, Joe Resetarits, Colton Watkinson, and Jordan Durston each had 2 assists of their own in the contest. Jacob Ruest netted 1 goal in his FireWolves debut while Charlie Kitchen found the back of the net for 1 goal in his first career NLL game. Tony Malcom and John LaFontaine both added 1 goal each. Jackson Nishimura and Curtis Conley rounded out the FireWolves scoring with 1 assist each.
Despite the loss, FireWolves goaltender, Doug Jamieson, had a solid game between the pipes. Jamieson recorded 43 saves on 53 Toronto shots on goal.
From the faceoff circle, Joe Nardella absolutely dominated, winning 17-21 faceoffs. Nardella also matched Malcom and Ruest for a team-high 7 loose balls.
Defensively, Nick Chaykowsky, Adrian Sorichetti, Mike Byrne, Downing, Malcom, Conley, and Durston each caused 1 turnover.
Albany was 3-5 on power play opportunities with 2 power play goals from Kew and 1 from Ruest.
The next game for the FireWolves is a home matchup versus the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, December 18 at 7:00 pm in the Times Union Center.
