COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia Fireflies won off of the strength of their pitching on Friday night as rain delayed the start of the game as well as ended it prematurely, at the top of the seventh inning.

Ben Kudrna, the Royals 2021 second-round selection, pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in total - as well as recording five strikeouts. After 62 pitches, he was replaced by Heribert Garcia (W, 4-2), who sacrificed only one hit in two innings of work.

From a hitting perspective, the Fireflies got things started early, scoring their first two runs in the first two innings. River Town got around the bases first, thanks to a Darryl Collins sacrifice fly, and Gary Camarillo hit a solo shot to left field for a home run. Later in the game, Guillermo Quintana hit a double to score Rubendy Jaquez.

The only run surrender by the Fireflies came at the bottom of the fifth inning when Richard Paz hit a sacrifice fly to score Isaiah Green.

The Columbia Fireflies will be playing the Lynchburg Hillcats again tomorrow at Bank of the James Stadium at 6:30 p.m. RHP Samuel Valerio (0-2, 7.17 ERA) will take the mound for Columbia while LHP Rodney Boone (2-0, 2.02 ERA) gets the nod for Lynchburg.

Columbia returns home for a two-week homestand June 7-19 that includes two Budweiser Thirsty Thursdays, two Freebie Fridays, two firework shows and the return of Negro League Weekend! Tickets are available at FirefliesTickets.com.
