ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Friday's game between Columbia and Augusta was suspended after one inning due to rain. The game was scoreless when play was halted just before the second inning began. Both starters, Kevin Canelon and Heath Slatton, had tossed scoreless half innings. The game will resume Saturday evening.
NOW WHAT?: The Fireflies and GreenJackets will resume their game at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and play until its completion (nine innings). After approximately 30 minutes, Saturday's originally scheduled game will begin and last seven innings.
LUPO LIT IT UP: After smacking two more hits, including a double, on Thursday night, Lupo finished with a .500 batting average (6-for-12) during the three-game series in Asheville. The Venezuelan outfielder banged out two homers, a pair of two-baggers and drove in five runs in the three-game series.
GOING DEEP...AGAIN: Dash Winningham launched his team-leading eighth home run of the season on Thursday. Columbia drilled five dingers overall during the mid-week road trip to Asheville. The power surge came at a great time.
JERSEY AUCTION: The Fireflies camouflage jersey auction is still ongoing. Fans can bid on their favorite jerseys - at the ballpark and online - until Monday. Proceeds will benefit the USO of South Carolina, an organization that helps soldiers connect to family, home and country while in Columbia and at Fort Jackson. Here is the link to submit your bid.
THE OTHER GUYS: The GreenJackets have two Giants prospects on their roster, according to MLB.com. 15) INF, Jalen Miller 27) RHP, Cory Taylor Augusta pitchers have recorded the fourth-best ERA (3.36) in the South Atlantic League and have allowed the least amount of home runs (50 in 122 games).
