Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats are pleased to announce that they have jumped to third place in the arenafootball2 Coaches Poll.

The Firecats (7-3) were ranked number six in the coaches' poll last week prior to making the leap to number three this week. The Firecats also received three first place votes in this week's poll.

"The only real poll that matters is the poll at the end of the season," Ben Bennett, Firecats' head coach, said Wednesday. "If we are number one after the ArenaCup, then I will be happy."

The coaches' poll comes out each Wednesday. Each team's head coach submits his votes every Tuesday to be compiled by the league office. Every coach ranks what he thinks are the top 12 teams in order, without including his own team.

Coming in at number one in the poll was American Conference foes, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers (8-2). Wilkes-Barre travels to New York this weekend to play the Albany Conquest (4-6). Coming in at number two was South Division rivals, the Birmingham Steeldogs (8-2). This weekend, Birmingham travels into the frigid waters of the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, to take on the Mid-South Division leading Tennessee Valley Vipers (7-3). The poll has had a different number one for eight straight weeks.

The Firecats take off for Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Thursday to seek revenge on the Cape Fear Wildcats (5-3), who knocked off the Firecats 55-35 on April 24. The Firecats look to tie their best winning streak in franchise history when they go for their fifth straight win. A win would also be the second time in as many seasons that Coach Ben Bennett won seven of eight games.

The Firecats return home on Saturday, June 26, to take on the Macon Knights. Kickoff is set for 7:40, and group discounts are still being offered. Call the Firecats' office now at (239) 390-2287 to get the hottest tickets in southwest Florida!
