Manchester Wolves News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. (June 16, 2004) - The Manchester Wolves (arenafootball2) are out to get back on the winning track this Friday (June 18) when they play host to the Memphis Xplorers in an important af2 battle at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The show begins at 5 p.m. with a special pre-game concert courtesy of Spiderbiteradio.com, featuring popular local music acts, Sleepwalk and Josh Logan. The action inside the arena kicks off at 7:30 p.m. This Friday night is also "Not Your Typical Team Photo Night" where every fan through the doors will receive a FREE team photo, courtesy of Citizens Bank, WHOB 106.3 FM and Oldies 99.1 WNNH. Another special surprise for area fans is that former Beverly Hills 90210 star Ian Ziering will be on hand to take part in the ceremonial pre-game coin toss.

The Wolves (4-6) face a formidable foe ahead in Memphis, a team that boasts one of the most dangerous wide receiver/kick returners in the af2 in Kevin Prentiss. In nine games played with the Xplorers (5-5), Prentiss has caught a team-best 63 passes for 766 yards and 16 touchdowns. On kick returns, the 5-8, 155-pound Mississippi State alum has been even more impressive, racking up 800 return yards and a league-high six touchdowns. Memphis newcomer and new starting QB Michael Wall will be the man in charge of getting Prentiss the ball this week. Wall, who saw his first game action last week, led the Xplorers to a key win against Bakersfield with five touchdown passes off the bench, three of which went to Prentiss. Leading the defensive unit is former Wolves DS Dahnel Singfield. Singfield, who saw limited action last year, has become one of the better cover men in the af2 this year and currently leads the league in passes defended (24).

The Wolves are led by quarterback Chris Sanders, who is the unquestioned leader of the offense. Last weekend Sanders set a new team record for most touchdown passes in a single season with 43, two more than the previous team benchmark of 41 set in 2002 by Cable Davis. He's also well on his way to pass Davis in a number of other passing categories, including passing yards in a season, completions and attempts. Due to the recent suspension of veteran receiver George Williams (conduct detrimental to team), rookie receivers Reggie Robinson (44 catches, 557 yards, 10 TDs) and Henry Frazier (28 catches, 453 yards, six TDs) are now the primary targets for Sanders. On defense, the action will be fierce up front as former New England Patriot Vernon Crawford will be out to create havoc against on the Xplorers. He'll also need help from guys like rookie defensive specialist Rob Carey, who is starting his third straight game for the Wolves.

"Memphis is a team with a solid line, a veteran coach, and Kevin Prentiss, a great little receiver who makes this team very dangerous," Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards said. "But if Chris is sharp and our defense stays focused for four quarters, I think we'll be in good shape."
