Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats will test their skills on the hardwood against the Collier County Sheriffs Office Blueliners Tuesday January 30th at North Collier Regional Park, 15000 Livingston Road in Naples. Tip off is set for 7pm. The basketball game is open to the public and admission is free and will highlight some of the parks' newest facilities. Quarterback Chris Wallace and Receivers Magic Benton, Ethenic Sands and Brent Burnside will lead the Firecats All-Stars against Collier County's finest.
The Sheriff's office will also be collecting donations for Corporal Jerry Gibson's family, who recently lost their 9yr old son Josh to cancer. Josh had been diagnosed with cancer at the tender age of 5. With chemotherapy treatment the cancer had been in remission.
He had been recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and on January 12th Josh was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital because he was having difficulty breathing and his brain was hemorrhaging. Sheriff Don Hunter went to Lee Memorial Hospital and deputized Josh fulfilling the young man's lifelong dream of becoming a deputy just like his dad. He passed away a few hours later.
"We are humbled by the opportunity to participate in an event like this," said Firecats President and GM Chris Vallozzi. "The Gibson family has suffered a tremendous loss and is now burdened with astronomical medial expenses. Our hope is to help them receive a little relief through the generous donations of our fans and the Southwest Florida community."
All donations collected at the game will be given to the Gibson family to help with the mounting medical expenses from Josh's treatment, which currently total more than $100,000.
The Firecats will open the 2007 season at home against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs, Saturday March 31st. 2007 Season tickets are available now! Call (239) 390-CATS (2287) today to reserve your seats!
