Firecats Fisher Out With Fractured Foot

Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- Less than 48 hours after the Firecats 62-56 win over the Louisville Fire that clinched the South Division for the 3rd straight year and awarded the team home field advantage throughout the post season, they learned they will have to play the rest of the season without their most versatile lineman.

OL/DL Comone Fisher, who just last week became the 1st lineman in af2 history to win the Cutters Catch of the Week honors, was diagnosed with a fractured left foot. The injury is located in the middle of the foot towards the outside edge, commonly referred to as a Jones fracture. Regardless if the injury requires surgery, typical recovery time takes 6-8 weeks.

Fisher came out of last weeks game in the 2nd quarter and initially took a seat on the bench, but during a timeout just before halftime made an early exit to the locker room and emerged later on crutches.

In the Firecats 1st home game of the season he became the team's all-time sacks leader collecting a pair of sacks against the Memphis Xplorers. For his career Fisher has recorded 14 Firecats' sacks and 26 in his af2 career.

Last week he showcased his pass catching skills hauling in his 3rd score of the season in dramatic fashion, a full extension dive into the endzone made even more impressive considering his 6'2" 290lb frame.

"It's obviously a big loss for us given his abilities on both side of the ball," said Offensive Coordinator Ken Mastrole. "To lose a veteran player and one of your team captains is tough, but it also provides and opportunity for one of the younger guys to step up. Our skill players are great, but it all starts up front and the rest of the guys are going to have to rise to the occasion. That's where games are won and lost."

The Firecats will close out the regular season on the road this Saturday night July 29th against the South Georgia Wildcats in Albany, Georgia. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.

Game can be heard each week on 98.9 FM WGUF and online at www.ABC-7.com and www.NBC-2.com.

Tickets for playoff game A, Saturday August 12th against a yet to be determined opponent, are on sale now by calling the Firecats box office at 390-CATS (2287).
