Wolves to honor NH Shrine team

The Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's professional arenafootball2 team, announced today that they'll be honoring the 2006 New Hampshire Shrine Football Team before their regular season finale, "Fan Appreciation Night", on July 28 th at 7:30 p.m. against the Quad City Steamwheelers on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The 53rd annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl will be held on August 5th at 2:30 p.m. and will feature the best high school athletes from New Hampshire and Vermont. NH's team will feature 36 players from 19 different schools from all over the Granite State and will be coached by some familiar faces on the sidelines. Former Central High School Head Coach Jim Schubert will take the reigns and will be assisted by Wolves' Assistant Coach and new Central Head Coach Ryan Ray, Dan Duval, Pat O'Neil, Peter Bergeron, and Kevin Hebert, while the legendary Stretch Gillam will be the their Athletic Director.

This year's game will be held at Plymouth State University for the first time ever after being previously held at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.

Schubert compiled an impressive 121-57 record, which includes six Division I championships in eight appearances and 10 Turkey Bowl wins in 12 appearances, as head coach of the Little Green for 16 years before retiring in 2006. This game will probably mark the end of a legendary career as coach for Schubert.

"I knew it was time to step back and take a look at everything," said the 59-year-old Schubert, who lent some of his football expertise to the Wolves on the sidelines last season. "This move will allow me to spend more time with my family and grandchildren."

NH's roster includes: Zachariah Brown, Tyler Dodds, Josh Ratacik, Steve Young, Kyle McAllister, Dan Prunier, Pete Vonlderstine, Shawn Hastings, John Ackerman, Adam Boghosian, Bryan Mayhem, Chris Hedlund, Sean Jellison, Kevin Miller, Justin Starr, Brian Castellucci, Lance Mailloux, John Sughrue, Patrick Halligan, Josh Michaud, Brent Desnoyers, Tom Johnson, Nathan Boire, Tyler Nicol, Charles Scott, Ryan Dow, Michael Donahue, Nick Nycz, Matt Starr, Bryant Pikcilingis, Jon Thomas, Benjamin Robinson, Cory Wright, Scott O'Neil, Cameron Fisk, and Tim O'Brien.

Friday night's game will be a must-win for the Wolves (8-7), as a win would clinch a post-season birth for the second straight year under head coach Ben Bennett. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a FREE bingo card presented by Bellman's Jewelers with a chance for one lucky fan to win a $20,000 shopping spree along with tons of other great prizes given away all night long. The first 5,000 fans will also receive the first-ever "Manchester Wolves Lady Wolf Pack" calendar!!
