Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- Florida Firecats defensive back Levy Brown and linebacker/defensive end Alfred Peterson each set new team records in the Firecats' 64-41 win over the Albany Conquest.
Brown set a new team record with 14 tackles in the win. Thru the 1st 12 games of the season Brown has 100 tackles, getting to the century mark in fewer games than any other player in af2 history. He needs just 22 tackles on the year to break the single season tackles record (121.5) currently held by William Haith who set the record in 2005 with the Manchester Wolves.
Brown's 100 tackles leads the league and his 10 interceptions also have him ranked #1 in the af2. He also has 31 passes defended, just 2 behind Green Bay's Ronnie Amadi.
Alfred Peterson collected is 8th sack of the year setting a new team single season record. The record was previously held by Tyronn Johnson (7.5 in 2003) who just happened to re-join the Firecats last week. As a team, the Firecats have recorded 28 sacks, 3rd best in the af2 and already 4 ahead of last year's total.
The Florida Firecats travel to Oklahoma City for the 1st time in franchise history to take on the Yard Dawgz. Florida won the only previous contest between the teams in week 1 of this season 55-22. Kickoff is set for 8pm EST.
Fans can listen to the game online at www.FloridaFirecats.com, www.NBC-2.com & www.ABC-7.com.
The Firecats return home next week, Saturday July 7th, to host the South Georgia Wildcats in a game that could decide the South Division champion. The Firecats took over the division lead last week while the Wildcats were idle. South Georgia defeated Florida by 11 points earlier this season and currently holds the head-to-head tie breaker. Florida has won the South Division 3 years in a row. This will be the Firecats final home game of the regular season.
