
Firebirds Continue Offseason Signings

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Firebirds of the Arena Football League announced today the signing of wide receiver/defensive back Bobby Sippio.
Sippio, a two-time Division I-AA consensus All-American at Western Kentucky, is the Hilltoppers all-time leader with 19 interceptions for 357 yards. A three-year starter, Sippio finished his collegiate career with 179 tackles (107 solo), 41 pass deflections, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries on his way to re-writing the school's record book. Sippio left Western Kentucky early to enter the NFL draft after a strong junior season.
Sippio started all 33 games of his collegiate career. During his sophomore year he set the school's single season record with ten interceptions for 236 yards, including two touchdowns. That same year, he also set the school record with 27 pass deflections.
"Bobby is a good young prospect with great size and athletic ability and we are excited to have him on our team," said Head Coach Mike Dailey.
The 2003 season marks the historical debut of the AFL on NBC. The network will broadcast 71 games next season, including all playoff games and ArenaBowl XVII on June 22. The Firebirds kick off the 2003 regular season on Sunday, February 2nd on the road against the Detroit Fury. The Birds home opener is slated for Sunday, February, 16th versus the Chicago Rush live on NBC Sports.
