Firebirds Add Six To Training Camp Roster

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Firebirds announced today that quarterbacks Stephen Wasil and Adam Bednarik have been assigned to the club by arenafootball2 for the 2009 season. Additionally, Albany announced that Harry DeBerry (WR), Alvin Jackson (WR/DB), Patrick Horne (WR/DB) and Brian Umstead (K) will join the training camp squad, increasing the total announced roster to 20 players.

Wasil, 24, played eight games last year with the af2's Texas Copperheads. The 6'3", 220 lbs Albion College product completed 22-of-264 attempts for 1,205 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2008.

Bednarik, 23, started seven games for the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2005 and completed 73.3% of his passes for 532 yards with four touchdowns before two shoulder surgeries forced him to the sidelines. The 6'2", 220 lbs quarterback will be entering his rookie campaign in the af2.

DeBerry, 22, put up five touchdowns on 12 receptions for El Camino College in 2007. The 5'10", 170 lbs wide-out will be entering his rookie af2 season.

Jackson, 28, registered 27 tackles, 3 interceptions, four pass break-ups and 5 fumbles recovered last year with the South Georgia Wildcats and also added three receiving touchdowns. The 6'1", 195 lbs two-way threat will be entering his third season in the af2.

Horne, 30, played his college football at Louisiana-Lafayette. The 6'0", 190 lbs defensive specialist played in 3 games in 2008 for Rio Grande and recorded 16 solo tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass broken-up.

Umstead, 24, played four years of NCAA soccer for Georgia Military College. In one game last year with the Peoria Pirates the 6'2", 185 lbs kicker connected on 6-of-7 PAT attempts and took nine kickoffs for 482 yards (53.6 average).

The Albany Firebirds will begin their 2009 regular season schedule on March 27th at Mahoning Valley, while their first home game is set for April 10th against the Florida Firecats at the Times Union Center.
