Peoria Rivermen News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Peoria Rivermen tied the contest twice but never led in a 3-2 loss to the Fayetteville FireAntz on Friday night at Crown Coliseum.
The FireAntz collected a rebound goal by Andrew Daae 9:41 into the game for the only first period scoring.
The Rivermen tied the game when Cole Ruwe received a perfect give-and-go feed at the right circle from Alex Hudson to score the equalizer 11:02 into the second period. Fayetteville grabbed a 2-1 lead with 4:54 showing before the second intermission when Trevor Hertz forced a turnover at center ice and scored from the slot by clanging a low drive off the left post.
Peoria evened the contest 2:27 into the third period as Dan Bremner converted a pass from Garrett Vermeersch at the inside edge of the left circle, but the FireAntz quickly regained the lead 1:25 later when a centering pass from Corey Tamblyn deflected off a Rivermen stick and leg from a sharp angle on the right wing and into the net.
Kevin Murdock earned his third win in net over the Rivermen this season with 43 saves while Kyle Rank took the loss while making 27 stops. Neither team scored on power plays with each receiving three chances.
The Rivermen (25-13-3, 53 points) now lead the Southern Professional Hockey League by two points after second-place Knoxville beat visiting Louisiana 4-3. The FireAntz (17-14-6, 40 points) are in seventh place, three points out of a playoff spot. Fayetteville has won all three of this season's matchups with the Rivermen.
The weekend series between the clubs continues at Crown Coliseum with face-offs scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Central on Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Central on Sunday.
