Edmonton Trappers News Release

Shortstop Luis Figueroa doubled with two out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Edmonton Trappers a dramatic 10-9 victory Saturday night at TELUS Field. Ryan Balfe doubled with one out in the inning and Scott Hodges singled to get the rally started. Randy Knorr drove in Balfe with a base hit to right and Peter Bergeron drew a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for Figueroa, who had three hits and drove in three runs in the contest, which saw the two teams combine for 19 runs and 32 hits. It was the ninth win for the Trappers in their final at-bat and their 20th comeback victory of the season. Edmonton rallied in their final go-around after surrendering the lead in the top of the inning. The club still has not lost a game in which they have led going into the ninth inning and are now a perfect 10-0 when the opponent starts a left-hander at TELUS Field. The Trappers retired slugger Ron Kittle's number 21 in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday night. Edmonton and Tacoma conclude this four-game set on Sunday afternoon.

The Rainiers got on the board in the first inning with the aid of a Trapper error. Chad Meyers led off the game with a double to the gap in left-center field. Adrian Myers then reached on an infield single, which bounced off Figueroa's glove at shortstop, allowing Meyers to score all the way from second base. Ruben Castillo reached on an error by Hodges, the Trapper third baseman, with two out in the second inning and eventually scored the second Rainiers' run on a single by Myers. Edmonton tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Valentino Pascucci led off with a single to left and moved to second on a one-out base hit by Hodges. Knorr then singled to left, scoring Pascucci from second. Myers, the Tacoma left fielder, misplayed the hit, allowing Hodges to score the tying run. The Rainiers reclaimed the lead in the third inning with a single run. Pat Borders drew a walk to start the frame, moved to third on a base hit by J.R. Phillips and scored on a single by Kenny Kelly.

Edmonton came back with three runs in the fourth inning off starter Craig Anderson. Balfe led off with a single and eventually scored on an error by Castillo. Bergeron plated Knorr with a sacrifice fly and Figueroa singled down the left field line to score Jake Thrower with the final run of the inning. Phillips led off the top of the fifth with a single and scored on a home run by Kelly that cleared the scoreboard in left field. The Trappers came right back with a run in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead once again. Balfe drew a walk with out in the frame. Hodges followed with a single and Knorr added a base hit to load the bases. With one out Bergeron drew a walk to force Balfe home with Edmonton's sixth run. Balfe got things started again in the seventh inning with a leadoff single. Knorr followed two batters later with a double down the left field line to score Balfe and give Edmonton a two-run lead. Tacoma's Luis Figueroa drew the Rainiers to within one run of the lead in the top of the eighth inning with a leadoff blast off Chuck Crumpton. Borders homered with one out in the top of the ninth to tie the game. With two down Kelly singled and Mickey Lopez was hit by a pitch. Kevin Joseph (1-0) replaced Crumpton and yielded two infield singles that gave the Rainiers a two-run lead.
