Fighting Saints Release Schedule for 2015-2016 Season

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA- The Dubuque Fighting Saints and the United States Hockey League announced today the schedule for the 2015-2016 season, and the puck drops for the Fighting Saints on Saturday, September 26. Dubuque's quest for a Clark Cup Championship begins on home ice as the team opens a 60-game regular season schedule that features 30 games on home ice, including marquee rivalry and holiday contests.
For the first time since 2012, Dubuque will open the season at the Mystique Community Ice Center. The Fighting Saints host the Madison Capitols for Opening Night presented by American Trust on Saturday, September 26 at 7:05 p.m. With the Capitols return to the USHL last season, Dubuque and Madison renewed a rivalry that dated back to the 1980's. The Fighting Saints posted a 4-0-2 against their new Eastern Conference foe during the 2014-2015 campaign.
Key dates on the Fighting Saints schedule include rivalry games against Eastern Iowa opponents Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. The three clubs play for the Cowbell Cup, which is presented to the top team in Eastern Iowa as determined by head-to-head competition. The Fighting Saints won their third Cowbell Cup in four seasons in 2014-2015 and will look to defend their title this season. Dubuque hosts Cedar Rapids at the Mystique Community Ice Center on January 8, February 6, March 26 and April 1. The Fighting Saints visit Cedar Rapids on October 17, March 12, March 18 and April 2. Dubuque hosts Waterloo on December 5, February 19 and March 19, while the Fighting Saints visit Waterloo for games on February 20, March 11 and for the final game of the regular season on April 9.
The Fighting Saints schedule features several games during holiday weekends. Dubuque hosts the Chicago Steel on Saturday, November 28 for a Thanksgiving weekend game. The puck will drop at a special holiday weekend time of 6:05 p.m. The Fighting Saints also host a post-Christmas celebration on Sunday, December 27 against Youngstown featuring a 5:05 p.m. puck drop.
The Fighting Saints will ring in 2016 with a pair of games on home ice against Team USA U-17. Fans can celebrate on New Year's Day with a January 1 contest on home ice at 7:05 p.m. The two teams play again the next night on Saturday, January 2 with a 6:05 p.m. puck drop.
Based on the schedule, Dubuque will enjoy a large home ice advantage in the second half of the season. The Fighting Saints, the USHL's top team at home over the last five years, play 21 of their 30 home games after Christmas. The club's busiest month on home ice is February, when Dubuque hosts seven games at the Mystique Community Ice Center, including a season-high five game homestand from February 5-19. That homestand features a pair of games with Muskegon on February 12-13 in a rematch of the 2015 Eastern Conference Final.
The United States Hockey League also announced the league's preseason schedule today, and Dubuque will play six games total with two coming on home ice. Dubuque hosts Cedar Rapids on Friday, September 4 at 7:35 p.m. and battle with Waterloo at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Saturday, September 12 at 7:05 p.m. Dubuque will play a road game against each of those teams in the preseason, and take part in a USHL showcase in Waterloo on September 18-19 to conclude the preseason.
