Fighting Falcons' Main Camp Set

July 25, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI "" The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, will hold their final tryout camp of the summer this weekend at Mt. Clemens Ice Arena. The team will select 30 players from their Main Camp to join their training camp roster.

Admission to the camp, which runs from Friday morning through Sunday afternoon, is free of charge.

Nearly 120 players will battle for a spot in the team's training camp, including those who have earned an invitation based on their play at one of the Fighting Falcons' two camps earlier this summer, draft picks, tendered players, and players returning from last season's roster.

Players from 19 different states, as well as players from Canada, Finland, the Czech Republic and Australia will split into six teams and take part in a practice session Friday morning before scrimmage games begin at 3 p.m. Each team will play two more scrimmages Saturday before the first cuts are made.

The camp's best players through the Friday and Saturday will move on to an all-star game Sunday at 10 a.m. Following the all-star game, the Fighting Falcons' coaching staff will deliberate and meet with players individually to decide who will earn an invitation to come to Port Huron for training camp in late August.

"We expect to see some great hockey this weekend, and will ultimately have some incredibly tough decisions to make," said Michael Gershon, Port Huron's Head Coach and General Manager. "We've been pleased with the level of play at our first two camps this summer, and this weekend we've got the best of the best coming in to compete."

Scouts from junior teams and colleges attended Port Huron's first two tryout camps, and the team expects many scouts to take in the action this weekend.

"Every player at this camp has the opportunity to make a team based on their play this weekend," Gershon said. "Even if they don't make it through to our training camp, we'll have coaches and scouts of other programs on hand taking a look at some of the players on the bubble."

The Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. The team will play 28 home games in downtown Port Huron. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
