Fighting Falcons Host Warriors in Wednesday Night Matchup

January 21, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are giving free tickets to all kids 12 and under for Wednesday night's 6 p.m. matchup against the Michigan Warriors. Kids will also receive a coupon for free fries from McDonald's while supplies last.

Fighting Falcons season ticket holders may also pick up a free extra ticket to Wednesday's game at the McMorran Arena Box Office.

The first-place Fighting Falcons look to build off Saturday's 5-0 shutout of the second-place Johnstown Tomahawks as they host the Warriors for the first time since December 11.

No NAHL team has given the Fighting Falcons more problems than the Warriors this season, as Michigan is the only North Division team with a winning record against Port Huron at 5-1-1. The Warriors have won their last three matchups with the Fighting Falcons, and Port Huron's only regulation win over Michigan came in their home opener in late September.

The Warriors handed the Fighting Falcons their first regulation loss of the season in late September, as well as their first home loss in late October.

Wednesday's game will be the first time the Fighting Falcons take on the Warriors since then-leading scorer Mitch Maloney was called up to the United States Hockey League. Maloney had excelled against Michigan, with nine points on five goals and four assists in seven games. Port Huron is now led by Vito Aluia and Bryan Yim, who have each tallied a goal and five assists against the Warriors this year.

Zach Badalamenti brings a five-game point streak into Wednesday's game, while Logan Lambdin has a point in his last four. Badalamenti and Yim became the first Fighting Falcons players to reach 30 points during last weekend's series against the Tomahawks.

The Warriors will be well-rested for Wednesday's matchup, as it is their first in ten days. During their weekend off, the Soo Eagles overtook the Warriors for third place in the North Division. At 17-12-8, Michigan has the North Division's second highest point percentage (0.568), and they are the only North Division team other than Port Huron to have scored more goals than they've allowed this season.

The Fighting Falcons continue to lead the NAHL with 3.38 goals per game, and their weekend split against the Tomahawks protected their seven-point lead in the standings. Port Huron remains the only NAHL team with less than ten regulation losses, and their next win will be their 100th in the regular season in franchise history.

To celebrate, the Fighting Falcons are holding a contest for a $100 cash prize. To enter, simply write about your favorite Fighting Falcons win to the team's Facebook (Port Huron Fighting Falcons - NAHL) or Twitter (@PHhockeyNAHL) page. All fans who submit their favorite win will be entered into a drawing to take place at the first home game following win #100. The winner must be present to claim their prize.

Tickets to any Fighting Falcons home game are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, call the team's front office at (810) 966-3800.
