Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, split a weekend series against the Soo Eagles at Pullar Stadium over the weekend, with a 3-2 shootout win Saturday before falling 5-2 Sunday.

Two of the Fighting Falcons youngest players took care of the scoring Saturday night, as Matt Jones and Bryce VanHorn, both with 1996 birth years, netted second period goals to give Port Huron a 2-1 advantage. The Fighting Falcons would have left with a regulation win, if not for an Eagles goal with two seconds to play in the third period.

For the fifth time this season, Port Huron and the Soo headed to overtime. For the fourth time this season, a scoreless overtime gave way to a shootout. Matt Seidel, Vito Aluia, Nick Horne and Bryan Yim scored shootout goals to give the Fighting Falcons the 3-2 victory.

Logan Lambdin and Zach Badalamenti each had an assist for Port Huron. Both teams went 0-2 on the power play.

Port Huron goalie Alex Blankenburg got his 12th win of the season, and moved to a perfect 4-0 in the shootout this season. Blankenburg's 37 saves were his highest mark since returning from an injury on New Year's Eve

Sunday's game would follow a different script as the Eagles never trailed in a 5-2 win. Logan Lambdin and Noah Batis scored for Port Huron, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Badalamenti had the lone Fighting Falcons assist Sunday night. The Fighting Falcons went 0-7 on the power play, held scoreless on special teams all weekend. The Eagles capitalized on two of their four power play chances.

The team with the most shots on net went 0-2 over the weekend, as Port Huron outshot the Soo 41-37 Sunday afternoon.

The weekend split puts the Fighting Falcons at 22-8-7 for the season. Their 51 points gives them a seven-point edge over the second-place Johnstown Tomahawks. Port Huron is the only NAHL team with less than ten regulation losses.

The first-place Fighting Falcons return to home ice this weekend, January 17 and 18 when they host second-place Johnstown. Youth hockey players can get a walk-up ticket for just $5 if they wear their team jersey. Both games start at 7 p.m. at McMorran Arena.

Tickets to any Fighting Falcons home game are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, call the team's front office at (810) 966-3800.
