Fields Comes Up Clutch for Lightning
February 22, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release
Ronnie Fields led the Lightning with 30 points in a thrilling 123-120 overtime
victory over the Gary Steelheads on Tuesday night at the MetroCentre.
With 21 seconds remaining in regulation, Fields nailed a three pointer to tie the
game at 109 and walked to the Lightning bench as Gary called a timeout like it was a
regular occurrence. Lately it seems like it has been with Ronnie as he has hit so
many clutch shots this season that it seems like he is doing it every night.
Ronnie stole the ball from former teammate Jimmie "Snap" Hunter as time expired
in regulation to force an overtime period. He went on to score 8 points in the
extra period including a three pointer to tie it up at 114. Sidney Holmes, who had
a game high 12 rebounds, added a big basket with just over a minute to go in the
game when he flew threw the lane to tip in a Lightning miss and tie the game up
again. After the Steelheads went down and scored a bucket, Rico Hill came right
down the floor and hit a jumper to tie it back up. Chris Alexander missed two free
throws with 23 seconds remaining in the overtime period, and it was Ronnie's time
once again.
Fields drove the lane with 6 seconds remaining, hit a layup as he was fouled, all
while falling out of bounds. He connected from the line to complete the
three-point-lay to give the Lightning a three-point lead. Jimmie Hunter's three
as time expired came up short and the Lightning won a close one at home over their
Eastern Conference rivals.
"Its good to get back on the winning track", said Lightning Head Coach Chris
Daleo. "I thought everybody played real hard tonight. It was a great crowd and I
am glad we were able to bring home a win on our home court."
Cordell Henry added 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in the win while John
Jackson contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds off the bench for the Lightning. Dale
Miller, the newest member of the team, added 4 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals in
his first game with the team. Fields added 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals to
go with his 30 points.
