Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - After an electric performance from Alain Quijano last night, Schaumburg just couldn't hold the momentum as the Flyers (30-46) dropped an 11-3 decision to the Lake County Fielders (32-44) Thursday night at Alexian Field.
With the win, Lake County ensures a series split at two games apiece. Garry Bakker (4-7) tossed six solid innings, giving up just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
The Fielders were led by Northern League home run leader Joshua Short, who launched his 25th long ball in the sixth inning and tallied 4 RBI.
Eight of Lake County's 11 runs came in the fifth and sixth innings. Brian McFall smacked an RBI double and two batters later Anthony Esquer laced a two run single. In the sixth, Short launched a two-run bomb over the left center field scoreboard to push the Fielders lead to 10-0.
Ryan Gehring (3-8) was tagged with the loss in 4.1 frames. The southpaw was charged with seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
The Flyers open up a threee game set with the Joliet Jackhammers at Alexian Field Friday evening. It's Fireworks Night at the park, so come out to see a show on the field, then in the sky! Brett Harker will take the hill for Schaumburg opposite Joliet's Todd Privett.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM. Tune in to 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Jackhammers. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:35 PM with the game to follow.
