Fergeson Jenkins to attend April 10-12 games

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Ferguson Jenkins will be in attendance at the Kernels' home opener against the Peoria Chiefs on Monday, April 10, against the Peoria Chiefs. The Hall of Fame hurler will be signing autographs to help raise money for the Fergie Jenkins Foundation.

"The timing of this visit couldn't be any better since we're opening up with the Peoria Chiefs, a Cubs af.liate," said Kernels General Manager Jack Roeder. "Having a Hall of Famer like Fergie Jenkins in town just adds to the fun and excitement of Opening Day."

Jenkins will also be in attendance for the Kernels games against the Chiefs on April 11th and 12th.

The baseball legend requests $20 for .at items such as baseball cards and photos as well as non-major league baseballs. Cost for signatures on of.cial baseballs, jerseys, hats, and bats range from $35-40. All of the money collected will go to the Fergie Jenkins Foundation.

The only Canadian member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the right-hander pitched for the Phillies, Cubs, Rangers, and Red Sox during his illustrious career. Jenkins collected the Cy Young award in 1971 as a member of the Cubs and has the most strikeouts of any pitcher in Chicago Cubs history with 2,038.

Jenkins was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 21, 1991.
