Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Cranbrook, B.C. -- Washington Capitals' first round draft choice Eric Fehr was one of two Wheat Kings to establish Western Hockey League milestones during Wednesday night's disappointing 3-2 loss to the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook.

Fehr scored his team leading thirteenth goal of the season in the second period, giving Brandon a shortlived 2-1 advantage. The goal, his league leading eighth powerplay marker of the season, was the 100th of his four year WHL career.

One of only three players to score fifty goals in the league last season, Fehr becomes the first Wheat King to reach the 100-goal plateau since former captain Ryan Craig did it during the 2002-03 campaign. Craig finished his 5-year WHL career with 137 goals.

Fehr's thirteen goals this season is currently second best in the league, behind only Ryan Keller of the Saskatoon Blades, who has fifteen goals in 16 games. The 19-year old Winkler, Manitoba product is currently seventh in league scoring with 20 points while linemate Ryan Stone remains tied with Keller for top spot in the WHL with 25 points each.

In addition to Fehr notching his 100th career WHL goal, rookie defenceman Mike Cann collected his first ever WHL point - an assist - on Corey Courchene's first period goal on Wednesday night. Cann was Brandon's first choice in the 2003 WHL Bantam draft. Cann becomes the second Wheat King rookie defenceman to pick up their first WHL points during the club's current 7-game west coast excursion. Daryl Boyle had an assist in last week's 4-4 overtime tie with the Cougars in Prince George.

Brandon will begin the final leg of this eleven day trip on Friday night with a game against Dean Evason's Hitmen in Calgary - a team that the Wheat Kings went 1-3-0 against during the 2003-04 campaign. They will close out this trip on Saturday night with a game against the Broncos in Swift Current.

The Wheat Kings next home game is a week from today - Remembrance Day - when they play host to the defending Western Conference Champion Everett Silvertips. Next Thursday's game will feature a special pre-game salute to Manitoba Minor Hockey Week and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a full color Eric Fehr poster, compliments of Simplot Agribusiness.

Tickets to next Thursday's game are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or on line at ticketmaster.ca.
