FC Tulsa Re-Signs All-League Midfielder Rodrigo da Costa to Multiyear Contract

FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa's offense continues to add quality. The club announced on Thursday morning that it had brought back 2019 All-League midfielder Rodrigo da Costa, who led Tulsa in goals and assists in 2019, on a multiyear contract. In his first USL Championship season, da Costa set the league on fire, finishing second in assists in the 36-team Championship with 13, to go along with nine goals.
"We told our fans at the beginning of the offseason that we are committed to keeping our best talent in Tulsa, and I am excited that we have continued to prove that with Rodrigo," said FC Tulsa president James Cannon. "Rodrigo had a fantastic 2019 season for this club, and we hope fans are as thrilled as we are to see him back on the pitch for us in 2020."
It was a historic season in 2019 for the 25-year-old Brazilian, as the nine goals and 13 assists made da Costa one of just three players in the league with at least nine in each category. In addition to his Second Team All-League honor, da Costa's performance in 2019 also earned him a spot on the All-Opta Second Team. Da Costa's 13 assists in 2019 are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in USL Championship history.
"This signing says a lot about the investment in the club," said FC Tulsa head coach Michael Nsien. "We have a lot of different options in the attack. Some people would think it's crowded, but I am pretty excited. Rodrigo is a standout USL Championship player, and he and his teammates will be able to sharpen each other every day in training as they learn to perform together."
He won't be the only member of FC Tulsa's 2020 roster who had double-digit assists in 2019 as fellow midfielder Lebo Moloto recorded 10 himself last season as a member of Nashville SC. That gives FC Tulsa two of the five USL Championship players who recorded at least 10 assists in 2019 patrolling the midfield.
Da Costa becomes the 24th player signed to the 2020 roster and the fourth player to earn a multiyear contract joining Moloto, forward Marlon Santos and defender Bradley Bourgeois.
