FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa falls to Charleston Battery 4-1 at ONEOK Field conceding three in the first half.
FC Tulsa had a busy week ahead of tonight's difficult match against Charleston Battery, who ranks first in the Eastern Conference.
FC Tulsa was aware of the battle they were having tonight with Phillip Goodrum out for this home match.
A choppy start of the match resulted in four goals total, only one credited to FC Tulsa.
"Obviously, a disappointing performance. We were very reactive during the first half," Head Coach Mario Sanchez said. "We created good opportunities and could have made it interesting. We will continue working each day to improve and grow."
Charleston's first goal came in the 8th minute from a break away with a long assist from Charleston's Forward Nick Markanich.
Charleston added a second one to the board as Midfielder Juan David Torres chipped one in from the half-way mark of the field.
FC Tulsa was awarded a penalty kick in the 36th minute taken by Midfielder Justin Portillo, that got them on the board.
Charleston Battery's Head Coach was shown a yellow card in the 44th minute giving him a warning.
Before the half ended, Charleston got their third goal as Markanich scored one off the rebound from the goal post.
FC Tulsa possessed 41% of the ball in the first half and 46% throughout the game, unfortunately failing to result in goals.
Despite the tough loss of the match, Midfielder Sanitago Sanchez had his first ever professional debut for FC Tulsa in the USL Championship.
