FC Montreal News Release

MONTREAL - FC Montreal lost 2-0 to Louisville City FC at Stade Saputo Wednesday night.

The Kentucky team scored early in the game, in the 16th minute of play. On a corner taken by Niall McCabe, Tarek Morad got the better of an aerial challenge and headed the ball in the top part of the net to give his team the lead.

Louisville didn't waste any time in finding a second. In the 28th minute, defender Mélé Temguia made an errant pass in front of the box that was intercepted by Matt Fondy, who took advantage of the mistake to beat goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau with a quick low shot to the right side of the goal to make it 2-0.

"Tonight, players didn't show they wanted to win," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "We are lacking intensity and technical quality. We repeat the same mistakes too often. We didn't respect the game plan."

The Bleu-blanc-noir had its best opportunity in the beginning of the game. Winger Alessandro Riggi got a through pass from midfielder Zakaria Messoudi. After cutting inside the box, his shot hit the post. On the counter-attack, Louisville also hit the post when Matt Fondy got on the end of a cross with his head.

In the second half, Louisville tried to add to its lead. In the 50th minute, Kadeem Dacres deflected the ball with his head towards the top of the net, but Crépeau jumped and pushed the ball outside.

"It's disappointing because we were on a positive streak after Saturday," said winger Victor Omar Ndiaye. "We were combative, but with irregularity."

"I felt it right at the start," explained defender Zachary Sukunda, talking about the three games series in eight days. "In the second half, I felt like I had no energy. We had our chances and our ups and downs."

FC Montreal won't have time to rest as they go back on the road to face the Richmond Kickers is Saturday, June 13 at 7pm, at City Stadium.
