FC Cincinnati News Release
FC Cincinnati have signed defender Alvas Powell to a contract extension, the club announced today. Powell, 29, signs with the Orange and Blue through the 2025 season, with an option for the 2026 season.
"Alvas is an incredibly valuable part of our group," said Chris Albright, FC Cincinnati General Manager. "His experience, athleticism, and the ability to play multiple positions have been key to our success over the last two years. Most importantly, Alvas is an tremendous person and teammate and we're delighted to keep him in Cincinnati."
Powell has made 72 appearances, including 48 starts, across all competitions with FC Cincinnati over two stints with the club. Powell has made over 200 MLS appearances since his league debut in 2013 with the Portland Timbers.
A member of the Orange and Blue's inaugural 2019 MLS squad, Powell rejoined FCC ahead of the 2022 season, and has made 50 MLS appearances over the past two seasons. A season ago, Powell's 30 league appearances were his most since his career-high 37 appearances in 2015 for the MLS Cup-winning Portland Timbers. Powell started both MLS Cup Playoff matches for Cincinnati last season and has been a vital part of Pat Noonan's backline.
"I'm very happy to sign this extension and stay in Cincinnati," said Powell. "I'm so proud to represent this club and these fans, it's an honor. I look forward to more years in Orange and Blue."
The Jamaican international has made 58 appearances for the Reggae Boyz, appearing in three CONCACAF Gold Cups, three World Cup Qualifying cycles, and two Caribbean Cups. He played all but eight minutes for the 2014 Jamaica squad which lifted the Caribbean Cup that year.
This season, Powell has made 27 appearances across all competitions, including 11 starts.
