Fayetteville Outlasts Columbus, 3-2

The Fayetteville FireAntz and the Columbus Cottonmouths were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fayetteville made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Tommy Lange at 17:03 of the third period.

The FireAntz pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Fayetteville was paced by Lange, who racked up one goal.

The FireAntz were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. Fayetteville put 42 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.7 it averages per game.

Fayetteville also had goals scored by Corey Tamblyn and Bobby Reed, who each put in one. More assists for Fayetteville came via Corey Toy, Kevin Kessler, and Brandon Richardson, who each chipped in one.

Columbus was helped by Mike Switzer, who grabbed one goal. Switzer scored short handed 13:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Cottonmouths found themselves down a man on Dan Bremner's slashing. Columbus also got a goal from Tory Allan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Preston Shupe and Andy Willigar, who contributed one a piece.

Peter Skoggard recorded 27 saves for the FireAntz. Andrew Loewen made 39 saves for Columbus on 42 shots. The Cottonmouths incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
