Fayetteville, NC --- The Fayetteville Guard, of the National Indoor Football League, has signed four local football players to its practice camp, which commences March 6. Former Wildcats Mitch Galloway, Jon Hall and Juan Warren will be among the familiar faces. New blood, but also a recognizable name, is Hope Mills graduate DeLeon Raynor.
Wide Receiver Mitch Galloway signed with NFL's Buffalo Bills in 1997 where he saw action as a receiver and kick returner. In 1998 The Bills allocated Galloway to Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL-Europe.
Galloway still holds four all time top 25 school records at East Carolina University: #25 In top game performances, 4 receptions for 127 yards (Oct. 8, 1994 vs. South Carolina); #7 Most reception season (46); #3 Most receptions career (131) and #2 Most Receiving yards (1,754). Following his NFL-Europe career Galloway moved into AF2 where he became a season veteran playing for the Cape Fear Wildcats for 2002, 2003 and 2004.
Defensive Lineman Jon Hall received honors in Football as All Conference 1st Team, All County 1st Team, and All MVAI 1st Team while at Williamsport High School in Maryland. Upon graduating, Hall received a full Athletic Scholarship for the University of North Carolina where he played right guard.
Hall went on to become a two-time Carquest Bowl Champion, as well as, a Gator Bowl and Las Vegas Bowl Champion. Midway through his college career Hall transferred to North Carolina A&T where he anchored the offensive line for the 1999 Black College National Championship Victory. Also at A & T, Hall received the honors of 1st Team all MEAL.
In 2001 Hall began his professional career with the Roanoke Steam, of the AF2. Hall moved south in 2002 to join the Cape Fear Wildcats; Hall remained with the Wildcats organization until its final season in 2004. While with the Wildcats, Hall served as a Captain for 54 straight games that resulted in two Division Titles.
Defensive Lineman Juan Warren attended Diamond Hill Jarvis High School in Fort Worth, Texas, where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. Warren was selected for the Texas State High School Footballs' "First Team", All Conference and all regional teams.
After graduation, Warren attended Texas Christian University where he was a two sport athlete, football and baseball. Unable to fulfill scholarship obligations, Warren joined the United States Army. As an Army Ranger, Warren saw combat during campaigns in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq; Warren is the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
While in the service Juan played football for the Columbus Cottonmouths out of Columbus, GA. Upon his honorable discharge, Warren returned to the Fayetteville area to play with the Cape Fear Wildcats.
Defensive Back Anthony DeLeon Raynor, 22, graduated form Cape Fear High School in 2000. While at Cape Fear he played Running Back, Corner Back and Kick/Punt Returner, lettering for varsity in 1997 and 2000. Raynor also lettered in wrestling and was a four-year letterman in track and field.
Raynor's high school accomplishments include: All Conference 1998-2000 for the triple and long jumps; Conference Champion in the men's 100 meter relay and triple jump for '00; and Offensive MVP "Road Runner," senior year 1999-00. He was elected All-Conference Honorable Mention his senior year, '99-'00, as a running back. Raynor went as a defensive back and kick/punt, to North Carolina Central University on a four year football scholarship. While at NCCU Raynor, lettered all four years and was named #1 Defensive in The Nation Freshman.
"We are pleased at the level of talent that we've signed to practice camp," said Head Coach Terry Smith. "From here we'll go into camp and build a 25-man rooster, for what promises to be a strong inaugural season."
