Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. â It's time for some indoor football. After six months of preparations and organization, the Daytona Beach Hawgs take to the field for training camp beginning Wednesday at Municipal Stadium on LPGA Blvd. Players reported Sunday evening for initial meetings. Physicals will be conducted Monday evening, with the first practice slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Practices will be held daily leading up to the season opener March 19 against the Lakeland Thunderbolts. The Hawgs' Ocean Center debut is March 24 against the New Jersey Xtreme.
"This is the time of the year I look forward to,'' said Hawgs Head Coach/General Manager. "I've thoroughly enjoyed putting this organization together, but now it's time to hand the majority of the business over to my excellent staff and begin working on building a championship football team."
In his third season as a head coach in the National Indoor Football League, Bryson has utilized what he feels is superior talent from the Daytona Beach area and combined it with experienced players from his stints at Winston-Salem and Sioux City.
"This is definitely the most talent I've ever had in a training camp,'' Bryson said. "Everything they say about Florida talent is true. Now it's a matter of teaching them the indoor game."
Bryson feels the Hawgs' main strength entering training is their line, both offensively and defensively.
Former University of Florida and Carolina Panther Tommy Moody anchors the offensive line, along with former Seabreeze and Utah State star Steve Canidate and Bethune-Cookman star Terrance Butler.
On the defensive line, All American Leon Moore from Appalachian State, and John Bowman from Wingate lead the way.
"They truly are Hawgs,'' Bryson said. "I fully expect Tommy to be in Odessa for the All-Star game in August."
The quarterback situation will provide the most intrigue over the next few weeks. Two locals â Isaac Hall of Mainland High School and Ty Lohman of Father Lopez will battle with CW Post signal caller Neal Sharma for the starting job.
"It's going to be a battle,'' Bryson said. "Each of the three has the talent, now it's a matter of learning the system."
Whoever wins the job will have perhaps the league's most exciting receiving corps to throw to -- All Star Lucas Green, Robert Bailey, Erie Williams and Bethune-Cookman College products Joe Giddens and Tarion Hubbard expected to produce big numbers.
Other locals to watch include former Seabreeze star and Florida Gator Jon Xynidis and Jarraud Bell of Bethune-Cookman.
The public is invited to watch practice and meet and greet the Hawgs.
