Fatai Alashe Named One of the USL's Top Defensive Midfielders
April 13, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
The Indomitable Club's most recently signed player was recognized by the Championship as one of five defensive-minded midfielders to watch this season
On Tuesday, the USL Championship's Nicholas Murray named the league's five best defensive midfielders and five more to watch this coming campaign and the Indomitable Club's Fatai Alashe was honored as a name to keep tabs on in 2021.
Murray noted in his article, "A new season brings a new path for Fatai Alashe, who will be hoping his arrival at Sacramento Republic FC gives him a chance to reassert himself as a strong central midfield presence. The 27-year-old isn't the only likely new face in Republic FC's midfield - Sacramento also snapped up fellow former San Jose Earthquakes player Luis Felipe Fernandes as well - but the quality that saw Alashe once called up to the U.S. Men's National Team's January camp could be a gamechanger..."
Alashe signed with the boys in Old Glory Red on March 24 after hoisting the MLS Cup with Columbus Crew SC in 2020. The 4thoverall selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft made eight appearances - six of which were starts - and scored once last season in Ohio. Prior to playing for Columbus, Alashe spent four seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes and made 85 appearances for the South Bay club.
Alashe and the Indomitable Club will begin the 2021 USL Championship campaign against LA Galaxy II on April 30 in southern California.
