DENVER - Thought of by many as the "ËFastest Player in the NLL', Josh Sims is the fourth player to be named to the Mammoth All-Decade Team. A Princeton University alumnus who began his career with the Washington Power in 2001, Sims stayed with the organization for another seven seasons after the franchise relocated to Colorado.
"He had speed to burn," said Mammoth President & General Manager Steve Govett. "Josh was a tremendous field lacrosse player, and adapted very quickly to the box game. He was a superstar."
In Sims' first five years in the Mile High City, Sims picked up 548 loose balls and a Champion's Cup. His 629 loose balls in a Mammoth uniform in his seven seasons in Denver are second-most in franchise history.
"My years with the Mammoth were, by far, the most exciting time I've had with the sport," said Sims. "Having been back to games and being recognized by fans in the stands says a lot about the mutual respect and appreciation Mammoth fans and I have for each other and for the team."
A two-time NCAA champion, the Annapolis, Md. native was a three-time first-team All-American and was twice the McLaughlin Award winner as the nation's top midfielder. A resident of Superior, Colo., he joined current Mammoth forward John Grant Jr. and former Mammoth forward Gary Gait on Major League Lacrosse's Ten-Year Anniversary Team in 2010. On January 28, he will be recognized at Pepsi Center at halftime of the Mammoth game as one of the best to ever wear the burgundy, black and silver.
Tickets to the game on January 28, and all other regular-season home games, are on-sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
