Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - One team between the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Youngstown Phantoms was going to come out of Friday night's game at the Covelli Center with a blemish on its record. The Dubuque Fighting Saints used a fast start to make sure it wasn't them. The Fighting Saints scored two early goals in rapid succession, en route to a 4-1 win over the Phantoms in Youngstown.

Dubuque didn't take long to strike early in the first period on the road. Frankie DiChiara registered his first USHL goal on a walk-out play behind the net. DiChiara took the puck from behind the goal, to the right of Youngstown goalie Sean Romeo and got the netminder to drop, firing a shot top corner under the crossbar glove side. The goal was assisted by John Stevens and came at 2:37.

Only 1:11 later, Jarrid Privitera converted for a goal on a passing play setup by Peter Quenneville. The puck was behind the Youngstown net when Quenneville fed a wide-open Privitera who directed it past Romeo from the goal crease to make it 2-0 Dubuque at 3:48. The Fighting Saints were outshot 6-5 in the first period, but led 2-0.

The two teams traded goals in the second period. AJ Fossen struck for Dubuque at 4:42, knocking in a rebound on a shot from the blueline off the tape of Matt Benning. Eric Freschi also added an assist as Dubuque went up 3-0 on Fossen's goal. Mac MacSorley responded four minutes later for Youngstown with a wrist shot from the left side that eluded Dubuque goalie Arthur Brey's glove, hit the post and went in to make it 3-1 Dubuque.

The final frame saw Dubuque limit the Phantoms to only one shot on goal in the third as the stingiest defensive team in the league stood strong. The Phantoms, missing top player JT Stenglein to a one-game suspension, only fired 13 shots in the game. DiChiara collected his second goal of the game on the empty net at 18:56 of the third period from Mike Downing to seal the deal, and give Dubuque a 4-1 win.

Brey picked up his third win in goal with 12 saves. The Fighting Saints improved to 4-0-0 on the season with the win, and gave the Phantoms its first loss, as Youngstown fell to 4-1-0. The two teams will take the ice tomorrow at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown at 6:15 p.m. Central Time. The game can be heard on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM with Zack Fisch having the call.
