FARIA DOMINANT AS BULLS BLANK BRAVES 6-0 Faria fans 9 over 6.1 dominant frames as Bulls win fourth straight
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls scored five runs in the first inning and Jacob Faria provided a dominant start, as the Bulls blanked the Gwinnett Braves 6-0 Saturday night at the DBAP.
The Bulls batted around in the game's opening frame, with a Willy Adames RBI triple, a two-RBI single by Curt Casali, and an RBI sacrifice fly from Johnny Field giving the home team a quick 5-0 lead. That cushion was more than enough for Faria (5-1), who allowed his first and only hit with two outs in the sixth inning. Outside the double from Sean Kazmar, Faria struck out nine over 6 1/3 innings, as he moved in to a tie for the International League lead with five wins while increasing his league lead in strikeouts to 62.
Jake Bauers put the cherry on top of the one-sided contest in the bottom of the fifth, when he lifted a solo homer to center field to extend Durham's lead to 6-0. The long ball was the third homer for Bauers over his last six games.
Casali, Adames, Patrick Leonard and Casey Gillaspie all finished the evening with two hits in Durham's 13-hit attack, as the team earned its fourth winning streak of at least four games this season. Relievers Adam Kolarek, Jeff Ames and Ryan Garton teamed up for 2 2/3 innings out of the bullpen to preserve the Bulls' fifth shutout of the year.
Matt Wisler (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on 12 hits across 5 1/3 innings.
Durham (27-14) goes for the sweep of the four-game set Sunday when it sends RHP Brent Honeywell (2-4, 3.86) to the hill against RHP Aaron Blair (2-2, 5.29) for Gwinnett (21-20). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
