Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

HIDALGO, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that Trent Strickland has been named the Fans' Choice Most Valuable Player for the 2008-09 season after receiving nearly 400 votes in the online poll at rgvipers.com.

"It feels good. It's a privilege for me for people to say I'm a good enough player to be MVP of the team. I appreciate all of the fans for taking the time to vote for me. Hopefully they'll be able to watch me in the NBA next season. I also hope to come back to the Valley to do some community service to show them how much I appreciate what they've done for me," Strickland said.

Strickland has had a chance to interact with the fans over the last two years by leading the team in community appearances. He was also accessible to fans before and after Vipers games.

One of only two players to play in all 50 games for the Vipers, and the only one to start every game, Strickland finished the season as the active team leader in scoring at 17.5 points per game. His 6.1 rebounds per game ranked second on the team.

He scored in double-figures in each of the first 12 games of the season and 43 times over all, including a career-high 31 points on March 1 in Fort Wayne, on his way to receiving All-NBA Development League Honorable Mention.

Over the course of the last week, more than 1,000 fans logged on to vote. Stanley Asumnu finished second with 29% of the vote, followed be Jared Jordan with 15%. Jawad Williams garnered 7% and Kurt Looby was at 6%. Ernest Scott, Quin Humphrey and Craig Winder also received votes.
