Jason Phillips was named the Buffalo Bisons-CSC Player-of-the-Month for April 2003.
In April, 2003, Phillips was 4-0 with a 1.50 earned run average in 4 starts for the Bisons. He had 15 strike outs and opponents hit just .214 against him.
Phillips was chosen as the player-of-the-month through an on-line poll at the official web site of the Herd, Bisons.com. Phillips was presented with his player-of-the-month plaque before the Bisons-Toledo Mud Hens game on Thursday, May 8th.
Phillips is in his 3rd season with the Bisons. In his career in Buffalo, he is 14-6 with a 3.14 ERA. His ERA is 8th best in the Bisons modern era for career ERA. He is 3 wins away from entering the top ten for wins in the modern era as well.

C VIC VALENCIA homered in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Aeros past New Britain, 2-1, May 1. RHP FERNANDO CABRERA struck out 10 over five innings in the no-decision. RHP JEREMY GUTHRIE won his fourth straight decision, allowing a run and six hits and fanning four over 6 1/3 innings in an 11-1 rout of Norwich May 2. Guthrie had the second best ERA in the league through May 7, at 1.30...2B MAICER IZTURIS extended his hitting streak to 18 consecutive games on May 7. The 5-8, 150-pounder needs to hit in just two more consecutive games to match the 20-game hitting streak posted by Kinston's 2B RODNEY CHOY FOO for the longest in the National Association this season...3B COREY SMITH hit an RBI double in the top of the 10th inning to snap a 5-5 tie for Akron May 5, which won three straight extra-inning contests.

2B RODNEY CHOY FOO had his 20-game hitting streak snapped on May 2, going 0-for-4 against Lynchburg. Choy Foo hit safely in each of his next five games and was third in the league with a .344 average through May 7...The Indians have gone 14 consecutive games without hitting a home run, April 24-May 7. OF LUKE SCOTT has hit five of the team's seven home runs and was tied for second in the league in that category through May 7...SS EIDER TORRES stole three bases on May 6 in a 10-1 win at Frederick and was third in the league with 15 steals through May 7.

LAKE COUNTY...OF NATHAN PANTHER hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Captains edged Lexington, 5-3, May 4...RHP JASON BERE surrendered three runs over four innings, but did not figure in the decision, an eventual 4-3 win over Kannapolis on May 7. OF JASON COOPER hit a two-run homer in the sixth to provide the winning margin. Bere, who is expected to return to the Cleveland Indians rotation as early as next week, also allowed three hits and struck out one batter. Hampered by an injured shoulder this season, the former American League all-star pitched three scoreless innings in his first rehab start for the Buffalo Indians of the Class AAA International League on May 2...LHP BLAKE ALLEN pitched 17 1/3 scoreless innings over seven games from April 10-May 4.

INDIANAPOLIS...OF JASON CONTI led off the fourth inning with a home run and four batters later, 2B BILL HALL belted a two-run shot as the Bulls cruised to a 9-2 win over Richmond May 2. Conti and Hall finished with three hits apiece and Durham pitchers retired 11 Richmond batters in a row at point. RHP DAVID MANNING picked up his first win after he allowed a run and five hits, striking out seven without issuing a walk. In his next start, Manning held Norfolk to an earned run and five hits over seven innings in a 5-1 victory May 7. Manning was second in the league with a 1.80 ERA through May 7...C JOE LAWRENCE did not drive in a run in 17 consecutive games April 11-May 6 (10-53) until his streak was snapped May 7...OF PETER ZOCCOLILLO hit .306 (15-49, 7 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI) in 17 games

TOLEDO...RHP SHANE LOUX suffered his first loss of the season after he was tagged for five runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in a 6-3 defeat to Ottawa May 2. Loux, who entered the game leading the International League with a 0.38 ERA, bounced back in his next outing. He gave up three runs over seven frames for the win, improving to 4-1 on the season...RHP SETH GREISINGER, a former first-round pick by the Tigers, was shelled I his second straight outing in a 6-2 loss to Ottawa May 3. Greisinger, who started the season 3-0 but gave up seven runs in his last start, was tagged for six runs (5 ER) and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings to take his second loss of the year...SS DANNY KLASSEN had a 10-game hitting streak through May 7 (14-36, 4 2B, 6 RBI, 3 SB).
