Texas Wildcatters News Release

BEAUMONT, TX (August 22, 2005) - Texas Wildcatters Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Tony MacAulay announced today the team has signed defenseman Steve Slaton to a contract for the 2005-06 season. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Acquired from Columbia in a late-season trade, Slaton produced better than a point-per-game for the Wildcatters, tallying 11 assists in only ten games. In 69 total games last season for Texas and Columbia, Slaton scored twice while adding 22 assists.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound defenseman from Plymouth, MN anchored the Princeton University blue line for four seasons, finishing with seven goals and 28 assists in 121 career games for the Tigers. Following his senior season in 2003-04, Slaton was awarded the 1941 Championship Trophy that is given annually to the varsity hockey player that best reflected the winning spirit of Princeton's 1941 championship team and in so doing was an inspiration to his teammates. He was also that season's recipient of the Richard F. Vaughan Cup, awarded annually to the varsity player who best exemplifies perseverance and dedication to Princeton hockey. In addition to his on-ice accolades, Slaton was a three-time ECAC All-Academic Selection. Following his collegiate career, Slaton joined the Greensboro Generals in 2004 for three games, registering an assist while playing with new Wildcatter Matt Turek.

"With a year of pro experience under his belt, Steve is ready to blossom as a player," stated MacAulay. "He has shown that he is an intelligent defenseman who can move the puck and be creative as an offensive defenseman. I am happy to welcome a player with his character and passion who will strive daily to make our club successful."

The new-look Wildcatters open their third season on October 21 at Florida, before returning to Ford Arena for the home opener on October 29 against the Mississippi Sea Wolves.
