Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced they will participate in the "FUNfirst Hockey Program," a local program developed to introduce the sport of hockey to kids throughout the Pioneer Valley. Springfield coaches and several Falcons players are expected to be special guests throughout the 2005-06 season.
"The Springfield Falcons are honored and thrilled to assist in growing the sport of hockey throughout the local community," said Falcons assistant to the general manager and manager of community relations Carole Appleton. "We are excited to be working with Bay State Hockey and all of the supporting sponsors."
Starting in October, "FUNfirst Hockey" will be introduced Saturday mornings at the Smead Skating Arena in Springfield through a partnership between Bay State Hockey, Facility Management Corporation and the Ice Skating Institute. The program will feature four separate programs for ages 15 and under and start at just $199 for a full season. Additional savings will come in the form of discounted equipment packages offered through Gateway Hardware of Springfield, a hockey retailer that has been serving the Pioneer Valley for more than 40 years.
"This is something that the hockey community needs," said Facility Management Arena Manager and Program Director Rick âRooster' Peloquin. "The focus tends to shift to the kids already involved with the sport and this program will provide a completely unique program to families who are not interested in a large time or financial commitment. I think we'll see a lot of new faces in the rinks and that is very exciting."
Registration day will be held at the Smead Skating Arena located at 1780 Roosevelt Avenue in Springfield on Saturday, September 10 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. where program registrants will be greeted by Falcons mascot Screech.
"We all love the sport of hockey and by partnering with leading hockey organizations, our collective goal is to provide a completely unique hockey experience for children throughout the region," said Pioneer Valley Hockey Coordinator for Bay State Hockey John Duke. "We want kids to enjoy the benefits of playing recreational ice hockey without the pressures of competition and the expenses typically associated with the sport in an effort to open the doors to more families."
The Falcons will open their 12th American Hockey League season on Saturday, October 8 when they host the Portland Pirates at the newly renovated MassMutual Center. Season and group packages are now available, including Flex Packs and our new exclusive Club Seats. For more information, please contact the Falcons team office at (413) 739-3344.
