August 4, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA â The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that the club has signed left wing/defenseman Trevor Gillies. Gillies split time between the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters and the Peoria Rivermen and Richmond Renegades of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) last season. As per club policy, terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.
The upcoming season will mark Gillies' fifth as a professional. The 6'3", 210-pounder collected two assists and 332 penalty minutes (PIM) in 55 games between three clubs last season including one helper and 132 PIM in 25 contests with Lowell. Last season marked the third campaign in which Gillies has surpassed 300 penalty minutes. The Cambridge, Ontario native recorded a career-high 341 PIM in 69 games as a member of the Providence Bruins of the AHL and the Augusta Lynx and Richmond of the ECHL in 2001-02. Gillies was also assessed 303 PIM in 63 contests with the ECHL's Greensboro Generals in 2000-01.
"Trevor is a big, strong, physical player who can play both forward and defense and has been a fan favorite wherever he has played," said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. "We will be competing in a very tough division this season. Having a player of Trevor's size and willingness to play a physical role will be important."
Ticket packages for the Falcons' upcoming 10th anniversary season are currently available at the team's office at 155 State Street in Springfield. Orders can also be placed by phone by contacting the team office at (413) 739-3344.
