Falcons Sign Talented Duo

September 21, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons have signed two rookie forwards, Tomas Jasko and Derek Krestanovich, bringing the team's roster to eight rookies and 19 players total for the upcoming 2004-05 season.

Jasko, who hails from Slovakia and represented his country at the 2002 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, played in the Austrian Elite League last season where he recorded 28 points (18g-10a) in 44 games. In 2002-03 he led his team in scoring and finished fifth in the league with 67 points (30g-37a) for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League.

"Tomas is a guy that can put the puck in the net," said Falcons General Manager Blaine Moore. "He didn't turn 20 until December but still finished second in goals on his team last year playing against much older and experienced competition in Austria. He has an enormous amount of potential and may be the best young forward we've ever had in Fresno."

Taken by the Washington Capitals in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Krestanovich posted 37 points (10g-27a) and 154 penalty minutes last year while splitting time between the Western Hockey League's Moose Jaw Warriors and Swift Current Broncos. The centerman averaged nearly a point per game (45 points in 55 games) and racked up 129 penalty minutes given a full season with Moose Jaw in 2002-03.

"I'm not sure Derek himself realizes what kind of potential he has," commented Moore. "He's big, shoots well, has good hands and he's not shy about mixing it up a bit. He has all the tools to be very good at this level or even the next."

Fresno will battle the Bakersfield Condors in a home-and-home pre-season series on Oct. 15 and 16 before opening the 2004-05 ECHL regular season on Oct. 22 against the Las Vegas Wranglers at Save Mart Center. Full season ticket packages and Flex Packs are on sale beginning as low as $42.
