Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (September 21, 2004) - The Trenton Titans announced today that they have acquired forward Konrad McKay from the Charlotte Checkers in exchange for the rights to goaltender Alex Westlund.

"Konrad's a gritty two-way player that's got some scoring touch," said Mike Havliand, Titans Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "He's very responsible on both ends of the ice and we're excited to have him in camp."

McKay - 5'11", 190 lbs - will begin his fifth professional season with the Titans after spending the previous three years with Charlotte. Last season, the 24-year old finished third on the team in scoring (44) and penalty minutes (149). In 170 games with the Checkers, McKay potted 43 goals, 76 assists and 589 PIM.

McKay, a Wabowden, Manitoba native, turned pro in 2000-01. He spent his rookie season with the Odessa Jackalopes of the Western Professional Hockey League (now the Central Hockey League), leading the team in points (68) and penalty minutes (169).

The Titans signed Westlund as a free agent on December 27, 2003 after he completed his season with Khabarovsk Amur of the Russian Super League. Coincidentally, Westlund's first action with Trenton was in an exhibition game against Spartak St. Petersburg of the Russian High League, where he made 14 saves in a 3-2 win.

Westlund went 2-1-0 in a Titans uniform with a 2.01 goals against average and a .935 save percentage before re-signing with Khabarovsk Amur on January 11, 2004. A local product out of Flemington Village, NJ, Westlund has also played for the Dayton Bombers, Cincinnati Cyclones and the Toledo Storm. He is 69-31-13 over his ECHL career with a 2.48 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
