Falcons Sign Rookie D-man

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons have signed rookie defenseman Pierre-Olivier Beaulieu, which gives the team 24 players on its roster as it opens training camp today in preparation for the 2005-06 ECHL regular season.

Beaulieu was initially signed this season by the Texas Wildcatters, but became a free agent when the ECHL club was granted a voluntary suspension of operations for this season due to the effects of Hurricane Rita in Beaumont, Texas. The Quebec native spent his entire junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the 8th Round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Falcons 2005-06 training camp roster:

Forwards (14) - Brad Both, Fraser Clair, Luke Curtin, Korey Diehl, Peter Fregoe, Brett Hammond, Derek Krestanovich, Shawn Mather, Rob McFeeters, Kelsey Meunch, Alex Motley, JF Plourde, Scott Rozendal, John Wroblewski

Defensemen (8) - Pierre-Olivier Beaulieu, Matt Deschamps, Cramer Hickey, Cory Murphy, Matt O'Dette, Dan Rohanna, Dustin VanBallegooie, Shawn Weiman

Goaltender (2) - Jamie Holden, Brett Jaeger

The Falcons open the 2005-06 regular season on Oct. 21 and 22 at Save Mart Center against the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder, respectively.
