Falcons extend qualifying offers to eight players

July 1, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Meeting the ECHL's July 1 deadline, Fresno Falcons head coach and general manager Matt Thomas has extended qualifying offers to the following eight players from the team's official 2004-05 season-ending roster:

Brett Hammond

Derek Krestanovich

Corey Hessler

Charles Simard

Jamie Hodson

Dan Tessier

Brett Jaeger

John Wroblewski

Each team in the ECHL was entitled to reserve the rights to a maximum of eight qualified players, of which no more than four could be league-classified veterans (260 or more regular season professional hockey games played). The qualifying offer must remain open for acceptance until Aug. 1. After Aug. 1, the qualifying offer becomes null and void, and the team may sign the qualified player to any salary or may elect to take no further action. Teams that extend a valid qualifying offer to a non-veteran player shall retain the rights to that qualified player for one playing season.

Teams often do not extend qualifying offers to veteran players because, under the league's collective bargaining agreement with the Professional Hockey Players' Association, veterans can ultimately gain unrestricted free agent status despite receiving a qualifying offer. None of the above players on the Falcons' qualified list is a veteran.

The players from last year's official season-ending roster that were not qualified for 2005-06 include:

David Brisson

Jim Lorentz

Clint Cabana - Veteran

Terry Marchant - Veteran

Sam Ftorek - Veteran

Matt O'Dette - Veteran

Lanny Gare

Brian Stacey - Veteran

Lee Green

Jason Weaver - Veteran

Mike Kiesman - Veteran
