Fresno Falcons News Release

BOISE, Idaho – The Fresno Falcons tied their best-of-seven first round series with the Idaho Steelheads at a game apiece with a 5-2 victory on Saturday at the Bank of America Centre after overcoming a 2-0 deficit mid-way through the first period.

The Steelheads' top-ranked power play during the regular season helped them to the early two-goal advantage. Cory Morgan notched his second of the post-season at 9:58 of the opening period, and Joe Rybar tallied his club's second power play marker of the night just 1:11 after that. After picking up their physical play, the Falcons slowly turned the tide and were able to cut into Idaho's lead. Jason McBain held a puck in the offensive zone for Kris Porter, who beat Blair Allison from low in the slot for his first of the playoffs as Fresno headed to the second trailing, 2-1.

During the second period it was time for the Fresno power play to go to work. Cory Murphy tied the game with his first of the playoffs at 4:54 with his team skating five-on-three. The Falcons quickly re-gained another two-man advantage when Marty Flichel took a retaliatory penalty by slashing Scott Borders. On the ensuing five-on-three, Jason Weaver corralled a loose puck in the slot before beating Allison up high for his first of the post-season, and the Falcons led, 3-2. Colin Embley would add an even strength goal at 13:56 of the second, giving Fresno a 4-2 lead heading to the third.

The teams were scoreless in the final frame until Rob Bonneau wristed a puck all the way down the ice with Allison pulled in favor of an extra attacker. Bonneau's effort snuck inside the right post as the Falcons sealed the 5-2 victory.

The series now shifts to Selland Arena for Games Three and Four on April 16 at 7 p.m. and April 18 at 7:30 p.m. With the series tied at one, Game Five will be played on Sunday, Apr. 20, at 5 p.m. in Fresno. Tickets are available for all three contests at the Selland box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
