Springfield Falcons News Release
Worcester, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons were defeated by the Worcester Sharks, 4-1, this afternoon at the DCU Center.
The Falcons complete the six-game season series with the Sharks with a 3-3-0-0 record. Today's loss drops the team to 34-27-8-0 on the season.
Falcons goaltender Joonas Korpisalo recorded his second loss with the Falcons, stopping 23-of-26 shots on goal. Sharks goaltender Aaron Dell earned two victories against the Falcons this weekend. Dell allowed only one goal on 23 shots this afternoon. Springfield notched their only tally of the game on the power play, going one-for-two on the man-advantage. The penalty kill unit gave up one goal on five Worcester opportunities.
The Sharks controlled the first period against the Falcons, lighting the lamp twice. They opened scoring when Bryan Lerg skated the puck into the offensive zone and threw it across the slot to Evan Trupp. Trupp wound up for a slap shot that flew in at the 6:15 mark. Daniel Ciampini recorded the secondary assist on the opening tally.
Six minutes later, Worcester built up a two-goal load. With Jaime Sifers in the box for slashing, Karl Stollery scored with a one-timer from the right point. Korpisalo appeared to make the save, but the puck trickled through five-hole and across the goal line. Dylan DeMelo and John McCarthy earned points on the play.
The Sharks took a 3-0 lead with 2:30 remaining in the middle frame. Chris Crane passed ahead to Matt Willows to create an odd-man rush. Willows fired a shot that was blocked by Korpisalo, but the rebound was left out for Willows to slam home for his second tally of the season.
The Falcons finally found the back of the net with a power-play goal at the 4:22 mark of the third period. T.J. Tynan let off a wrist shot from the top of the right circle to earn his 10th of the season. Jaime Sifers and Ryan Craig earned credit for the helpers.
With 1:02 remaining in the contest, Ciampini potted an empty net goal to secure a 4-1 victory over the Falcons.
The Falcons return to the MassMutual Center on Friday, April 3 to host the Albany Devils at 7 p.m.
