
Fairbanks Tops Team USA In Overtime

BLAINE, Minn. - Tonight at the Schwan Super Rink, it took the Fairbanks (Alaska) Ice Dogs 61:32 to earn a victory over the U.S. National Under-17 Team. Jameson Lundquist beat US goaltender Brad Phillips (Farmington Hills, Mich.) on the first shot of overtime to give Fairbanks their first win at the 2005 NAHL Showcase.
In the second period, Team USA fought back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game, with both goals scored only :21 seconds apart. The USA scoring got started by Cade Fairchild (Duluth, Minn.) blasting one past the Fairbanks goaltender on the power play on a feed from Colin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn.). Mike Cieslak (Penfield, N.Y.) followed with a breakaway goal on a great pass from Justin Vaive (Buffalo, N.Y.).
Team USA jumped out a quick lead in the third period on a power play goal from defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y.), his third power play goal in two games. Fairbanks sent the game to overtime with a tying goal with 5:41 remaining in the game on a goal from A.J. Hau.

NOTES: Tomorow night's opponent, the Texas Tornados are 2-0 in the NAHL Showcase ... The U.S. National Under-17 Team traveled to Texas to play the Tornados in two exhibition games to start the 2005-06 season, Texas won both games by the score of 4-1
