Fairbanks Alaska. December 30,2010. The Fairbanks Grizzlies are pleased to announce the signing of Defensive Back Xavier Drakeford. The 6'2 215 Drakeford from the University of Charleston in West Virginia will compete for a starting job at the safety position. Drakeford was a four year starter at Charleston and was a four-time All-WVIAC selection at Safety. As a junior, Drakeford was selected to the All Super Region 1 team and was also an Honorable Mention All American. Drakeford finished his career with 200 tackles, 6 sacks, 7 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and 7 blocked kicks.
"Xavier has the potential to be a big part of our defense," stated Fairbanks Grizzlies Head Coach Robert Fuller. "Xavier brings a physical presence to our secondary and he has a knack for making big hits. He played a ton of football in college and his ability to play multiple positions for us on defense is a great asset."
