Facial Hair Friday at the Rink for Mustache Mania

November 21, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, IA- Looking up and down the Dubuque Fighting Saints roster this month, you'd be hard pressed to find a player on the team that could be described as "clean shaven." The month of putting away the razor and letting that facial hair grow wild is well under way, and Friday night the Fighting Saints will celebrate the best "staches" and "lip sweaters" both on and off the ice for Mustache Mania. Dubuque hosts the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:35 p.m. and the evening will be centered on great facial hair while raising awareness for men's health issues.

Movember is a official global charity, and, according to the organization, the "vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men's health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches on men's faces around the world. Through the power of the Mo, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges."

At Friday's Mustache Mania event, Fighting Saints players will be supporting great facial hair to help support the cause. USHL players have been encouraged by league partner Sauce Hockey to help support the cause and post their facial hair online with the hashtag, "#SauceLipSweaters." The styles are different from player to player, and many team members, ranging in ages from just 16-20, might only be supporting the peach fuzz. Others are showcasing classic looks, as 20-year-old forward Max McHugh has grown a noticeable 'stache, while teammate Shane Eiserman is supporting more of a goatee.

Fans that can rock facial hair are encouraged to do so on Friday night as the Fighting Saints staff will be on watch for those in the crowd with the best mustaches in the arena. Fans of all ages and genders are encouraged to show off their best mustaches- real or fake. Drawn on mustaches or fake mustaches are encouraged to help fans support men's health.

The evening will feature trivia about famous mustaches, such as the iconic black lip sweater worn by Tom Selleck. Also featured will be the different slang terms for mustaches, as well as an on-ice "Race to the Barber" competition that several lucky fans will get to compete in.

The Fighting Saints, wicked facial hair and all, are 7-0-0 on home ice, heading into Friday's game. Fans are encouraged to keep that razor in the drawer just a bit longer and rock the facial hair to cheer on the Fighting Saints Friday night at the Mystique Community Ice Center. Tickets are available by calling 563.583.6880 or online at DubuqueFightingSaints.com.
